SC issues notice to Centre and WhatsApp over new Privacy Policy

The Supreme Court of India on Monday issued notices to Centre and WhatsApp over the new privacy policy of the messaging app. The apex court asked to reply to a fresh plea alleging lower standards of privacy for Indians in comparison to European users.

Ever since the messaging app has announced a new privacy policy, people across the country are deeply worried about their data and privacy while using WhatsApp. After observing that people have grave privacy concerns, the top court said that it values privacy more important than money.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJ), SA Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said, “You may be $2-3 trillion company but people’s privacy is more valuable for them and it is our duty to protect their privacy.

The court has sought responses from the Government and the messaging app within four weeks.
