It is a universally known fact that the state of Andhra Pradesh is larger than the state of Telangana, and hence, everything that was divided between the two states after the bifurcation was done so, keeping in mind the areas of the states. This was accepted by the governments of both the states at the time, but the Telangana government doesn’t seem to be okay with of late.
Very recently, the Telangana state sought a 50% share in the Krishna river water, with the officials of the water resources ministry from Telangana insisting on getting a 50% share to the state. This took place when the officials of the water resources ministry from the two Telugu states attended the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) meeting held in Hyderabad on Friday, which was chaired by KRMB chairman MP Singh.
The KRMB proposed sharing a 66:34 ratio between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which the Telangana government didn’t agree with, posing a great problem. The Telangana government has been creating a few hurdles regarding the distribution of Krshiina water between TS and AP for quite some time now, after which AP had written a letter to the Union Jal Shakthi ministry to take over the river projects in the Telugu states for maintenance. AP’s request was thus accepted by the Central government, while Telangana is yet to come to terms.
