SC dismisses AP Govt’s petition on Amaravathi Insider Trading Issue

The AP government has gotten another major shocker from the Supreme Court, in the issue regarding the sale of Amaravati lands. The Supreme Court dismissed the petition filed by the state government, where the government alleged that insider trading took place in Amaravati, during the TDP government’s regime.

The SC bench made it clear that it would also give a written statement of the order. The state government filed this petition in the SC after the AP High Court’s verdict in the same case didn’t satisfy the government. The SC bench consisted of Justice Vinit Saran and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, who took up a long hearing on Monday. Dushyant Dave and Mehfuj Nazki argued on behalf of the state government, while Paras Kuhad, Shyam Dewan and Siddhartha Luthra’s arguments were placed before the bench, on behalf of the defendants.

Dave argued before the SC bench that the High Court had blocked the initial hearing of the irregularities in Amravati, under the Transfer of Property Act. He said that nothing was transparent during the sale of Amaravati lands. he said that there were no complaints registered in this regard during 2014 and 2019, but that there was an overwhelming number of cases that were filed from 2019.

On the other hand, advocate Paras Kuhad, who was arguing on behalf of the defendant, said no one had complained of any irregularities in Amaravati since 2019 either. He questioned why there was a need to conduct an inquiry when no one had a problem with the way the lands were sold. He said that the TDP government was very clear on the announcement of the capital and that there were no secrets about it. He said that the government had clearly announced the capital on December 30th, 2014.
