Tomato and onion farmers in the Kurnool district have been facing injustice for decades. For decades, prices have plummeted at the time of harvest, and prices have skyrocketed since brokers and market yards bought the crop at a lower price, leaving farmers and consumers at a loss and brokers making a profit.
Speaking on the issue before elections, Jagan assured that by the grace of God, if his government was formed after the 2019 elections, he would set up a price stabilization fund of Rs 3,000 crore so that the highest prices would not remain the same for a few days and the lowest for a few more days.
However, now the farmers in the Kurnool district have been protesting by throwing their crops on the road as the price stabilization fund has plummeted. Even they are unable to get transport charges for going back from the market yards. It remains to be seen whether the government will intervene in this issue and set up a price stabilization fund as promised.
