A fire broke out in the Vakulamatha potu of the Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirumala on Thursday, where the famed laddu is prepared.
The fire spread to the gunny bags on Thursday morning and spread sideways. As they were ghee-covered gunny bags, the smoke spread densely.
Alerted TTD personnel put off the fire, and the major accident was averted. This incident triggered panic among the pilgrims.
TTD Vigilance guards cordoned off the area. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and settled down the flames. None was injured in the incident. Even in the past, there have been some instances of fire accidents in the Vakulamatha potu.
