Styrene gas leak from the LG Polymers plant in Vizag last year killed 11 people and left hundreds of people hospitalized. Ever since the tragic incident, the locals, as well as opposition parties, are strongly opposing the government to give no further permissions to the company.
However, LG Polymers is now getting ready to resume its operations. The AP government has also been helping to re-launch the company for a long time. Given the objections from the people, the government, as well as the company, have changed its strategy. The company is said to be dealing with electronic products and completely shutting down the polymers products in that plant.
In fact, there is no real connection between the production of polymers and the production of electronics. The company has to demolish the entire plant there and build a new electronic plant. The new plant there is a sign that government is now able to provide land for free.
However, locals are suspecting that they may produce chemicals again in the name of electronics.
