Telangana’s pathetic mis-management of Coronavirus

The state of Telangana has been greatly mismanaging the entire situation of Coronavirus, and it is no more a secret. The government failed to conduct enough tests right from the very beginning, and even after the intervention of the state High Court, the government continues to conduct meagre tests in the state.

Gandhi Hospital has become the center for treating all those who have tested positive for the virus, and although things looked promising at the beginning, the situation is quite gruesome at the hospital right now. A video from Gandhi Hospital has been going viral on the internet since yesterday, where we can see two women dressed in what look like heavy PPE kits. The most horrible thing is that these two women are stationed in the hallway, near an elevator, and are in the worst possible condition – where they are trying their best to breathe and stay alive.

Looking at the video, one is forced to question what the management of the hospital is doing, allowing things like this to happen. Also, if two women are so easily discarded, and are allowed to stay by the lifts without being properly attended to, what is the guarantee that other patients are being treated properly? What is even going on in the hospital?

On the other hand, the medical bulletin that was released yesterday by the state of Telangana spoke huge volumes of how carelessly the state is dealing with testing. It was stated in the bulletin that one private laboratory had reported an extremely high rate of positivity, reporting 2,672 positive cases out of 3,726 samples tested. The government hasn’t named the private laboratory, but it is clear that whatever laboratory this is, it is conducting Coronavirus cases in an absolutely wrong manner.

The rate of positivity in the state of Telangana is currently 18.92, which is more than the rate of positivity in Maharashtra, which stands at 18.24. These rates are against the number of tests that have been conducted. While Maharashtra conducted 10,23,296 cases, Telangana conducted only 98,153 cases so far. With a high positivity rate, as high as 18.24%, the situation in the state, especially in Hyderabad is understandably grim and tense.

If the government fails to take any proper action at least now, then the city will soon see the worst of circumstances. The government immediately needs to ramp up testing at a large rates, and make sure that people are taking proper precautions.
