Telangana reports 4 new Omicron cases

Telangana has reported four new cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 on Thursday. With the addition of the fresh cases, the total number of cases due to the newly detected variant has risen to 7 in Telangana.

Director of public health and family welfare said the cases were all from among people arriving from other countries. Three of the four recent cases were people who came into the city from Kenya, and the fourth was an Indian citizen, he said.

As per reports, three of the four cases came from non-risk countries, while one arrived from an at-risk country. The fifth case is a Somalia man, and the sixth is an Indian citizen. However, the seventh case is a seven-year-old boy, who already left for Kolkata on December 12.

The new potentially more contagious B.1.1.529 variant was first reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO) from South Africa on 24 November and has been specified as a “Variant of Concern” by the global body.
