KTR, Telangana’s Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, has written a letter to the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, regarding the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail. He urged the minister to include the project in the ensuing union budget for 2023-24.
KTR urged the center to clear the approvals for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro, from BHEL to Lakdikapul, which will cost Rs. 8,453 Crores, as a jointly owned project of the center and state, with external financial assistance. This new metro line is proposed to be 26KM long, with 23 stations.
KTR stated that he seeks to meet the Union Minister to better explain the project, and even mentioned that the detailed project reports (DPRs) and other documents have already been sent to the Centre. He noted that Hyderabad is the faster-growing metropolitan city in terms of quarterly and yearly growths as well and that considering that every company is opening up offices currently, the need for the expansion of public transportation is something that doesn’t need to be explained in detail. On the other hand, the Phase-I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, which spans over 69 km was successfully implemented and is currently fully operational. It also happens to be the world’s largest Metro Rail Project in PPP mode under the Centre’s VGF scheme.
