TDP: Jagan government very anti-Dalit

The Telugu Desam Party General Secretary, Varla Ramaiah has requested the NHRC on Thursday to take note of all the atrocities that are being committed on the Dalits, SC/STs in the state of Andhra Pradesh, ever since the YSRCP came to power in June, 2019.

In a letter, Varla Ramaiah also requested the NHRC to take strict action against all those who have taken part in these atrocities against the aforementioned communities. He also said that the Backward Classes (BCs), women, and other vulnerable communities have also been facing adverse effects in the YSRCP rule.

Stating a recent event that took place on July 18, Ramaiah said that while the YSRCP was illegally transporting sand, a truck carrying sand hit a person named Vijay. This incident took place in the area surrounding Sitanagaram Police station limits in East Godavari. Indugumilli Vara Prasad helped Vijay get back on his feet, while stopping the truck. That was when local YSRCP MLA’s follower Kavala Krishnamurthy came into picture.

Kavala Krishnamurthy behaved in a very unruly way with Vara Prasad, and even insulted him in the name of his caste. Krishnamurthy also gathered 40 members and attacked Vara Prasad along with his friends Sandeep, Anil and Akhil. Krishnamurthy didn’t just stop there, he filed a case against the four of them, and even registered an FIR. Krishnamurthy had also gone as far as pressurizing the police to open a rowdy sheet against the four of them.

On July 20th, Vara Prasad was arrested by the Sitanagaram police personnel, along with his friends Sandeep, Anil and Akhil. Vara Prasad was brutally beaten by the police, along with his friends, and he was tonsured as well. When Vara Prasad’s mother visited the police station, even she was disrespected and ill-treated. According to the Indian Laws, it is illegal to forcefully shave the head of a Dalit man, and it is punishable.

On July 21st, the four of them were released, and the DSP advised Vara Prasad not to go to any hospital because of the current Coronavirus situation. The four of them are now recuperating at their respective houses.

After seeing the injuries on Vara Prasad’s body, Ramaiah asked the NHRC to intervene and make sure that the culprits are properly punished, and that a situation like this never repeats again.
