It is known that Sri Lanka is facing a deep financial crisis and the citizens of the country are severely angered by the government. Protests have erupted in many parts of the country, including the capital, with protesters blaming Prime Minister Rajapaksa for shortages of essential goods and long power outages.
Amid the crisis, almost the entire cabinet of Rajapaksa resigned from their positions. While there were reports that PM Mahinda Rajapaksa had resigned, the Sri Lankan PMO issued a statement on Sunday, denying all reports of Rajapaksa’s resignation.
With this, the Cabinet, except PM Rajapaksa, has, however, resigned. Notably, Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs and son of PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, has also resigned from all his portfolios.
Sri Lanka, which is presently facing a foreign exchange shortage leading to a food, fuel, power, and gas shortage, has sought economic help from friendly countries.
