In a significant development, the Pakistan Cabinet Secretariat on Sunday issued a notification, de-notifying the former cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan as the Prime Minister with immediate effect.
The notification says that following the dissolution of the National Assembly by Imran Khan, he ceased to hold the Office of the Prime Minister.
Accordingly, the National Assembly has been terminated, and elections will take place in Pakistan within the next 90 days.
“Consequent upon the dissolution of Pakistan Assembly by the President of Pakistan in terms of Article 58(1) read with Article 48(1) of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan vide Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, dated 3rd April 2022, Mr Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi ceased to hold the office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, with immediate effect,” the government statement read.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Sunday banned all state institutions from taking any unconstitutional steps.
