Sardar Review: A worthy watch spy thriller

Movie Name Sardar
Star Cast Karthi, Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan
Director P. S. Mithran
Producer S. Lakshman Kumar
Music G. V. Prakash Kumar
Run Time 2 hr 45 Mins
Release Date 21 October 2022

Karthi’s much-awaited film ‘Sardar’ hit the screens today. Directed by P.S. Mithran, the spy action thriller film is produced by S Lakshman Kumar under the banner of Prince Pictures.

Story:

The movie begins in 1988, where a Spy agent has been branded as a traitor. This makes him go into exile. His son Vijay Prakash (Karthi) is introduced as a cop in the present day and he is haunted by the shadow of being a traitor’s son. When Samira (Laila), an activist, starts campaigning against the privatisation of mysterious water body deaths, Karthi tries to find out the killers only to realise a complex web of lies and deceit that has put the nation under danger. The super efforts of superspy in exile (Karthi again) to stop an evil businessman Rathore (Chunky Pandey) and his criminal plans forms the rest of the Story.

On-screen performances:

Sardaar is all about Karthi’s one-man show, Nayantara, O2 Fame Rithu Rocks gave a splendid performance. Chunky Pandey played the antagonist like regular Bollywood villains we get to see in Tamil movies. Raashi Kanna and Rajisha are just fair enough in their given roles. Special mention to Laila and this can be a new start to her second innings.

Off-screen talents:

G. V. Prakash is the second hero of this movie through his background score. It haunts you in so many parts and makes you connect to the social issue which we fail to address in our regular life. After Abhimanyudu and Shakthi, P.S. Mithran again came up with a social action drama which addresses current situations in society. We can clearly see the research and efforts he made on the script. Although he took too much cinematic liberty, he succeeded in making the movie in gripping way with his racy screenplay. The cinematography by George C. Williams is decent and the editing by Ruben could be better and would have been trimmed 10-15 mins easily. Production values are good.

Plus Points:

• Karthi’s outstanding performance in a dual role
• Screenplay
• Background Music by GV Prakash
• Last 20 mins of the Film

Minus Points:

• Too much cinematic liberty
• Movie length
• Chunky Pandey who played Villain

Verdict:

On the whole, Sardar is an engaging and entertaining Spy film that neither leaves you awestruck nor disappoints you. It is recommended that the movie can be watched this weekend, and it appears like a Diwali winner in terms of content.
