Exclusive Interview: Rana was shocked while I was giving an audition – Seerat Kapoor

Seerat Kapoor made her debut with super hit film, ‘Run Raja Run’ and was later seen in ‘Tiger’ and ‘Touch Chesi Choodu’. Her latest film ‘Krishna and his Leela’ was released on Netflix recently and it got a decent response. Seerat’s character, Ruksar was received well be the viewers. Here’s a transcript of our chitchat with Seerat.

What is the biggest challenge you faced during the lockdown period? Did you learn anything important in these tough times?

I did not face any big challenge till now. I keep myself busy even while at home by doing one work or another, so there aren’t too many worries. I spent the lockdown period with my family members and I had whatever I needed. But that is not the case with everyone. There are many people who don’t even have food to eat. I tried to play my part and helped a few. This is one of the best things Covid-19 pandemic taught me. I am more considerate and caring now. I will continue this lifestyle after the lockdown ends as well.

Krishna and his Leela was made for a theatrical release but it released directly on OTT platforms, what is your reaction?

Everyone had to spend the lockdown period in their homes. Our team felt really good about entertaining the audience at the comfort of their homes. It was a new experience to all of us. Usually, film promotions include, media interviews, promotional campaigns, and tours. But we had to confine to online promotions and that is something new. We got to know the response of the audience through social mediums.

How was it playing Ruksar? What kind of a response did you receive?

Playing Ruksar was fun. I received many compliments for my performance. Many people said my minute expressions worked out really well and they added more sass to the character. Ruksar character closely resembles my off-screen lifestyle and it was easy for me to blend in and stay myself.

You’ve played female lead in a few films, what made you accept a relatively small role in Krishna and his Leela?

What you said is true. My role in this film is short, especially so, considering the fact that I have played female lead in a few films. But Ruksar character connected well with me and I agreed to do it. While giving auditions, Rana asked me why I was giving an audition for a small role even after playing female lead in a few films. I said I wanted to fulfill the wishes of the makers and that is the reason why I am giving an audition. He appreciated me for the same. Also, I did not have a personal stylist while working on the film. I styled myself. It is a completely different experience to work on a small-budget film. We get to many new things while working with a new team.

You have very few dialogues in the film and had to convey a lot through expressions, how did you prepare yourselves for this role?

Thanks a lot. I got very good feedback in this regard from my fans as well. Actually, I did not do much homework for Ruksar character as it is close to my off-screen personality. I tried to keep things as natural as possible and that seems to have worked. Everytime Krishna’s character is confused, Ruksar expresses her ideology rather than forcing him to take any decisions.

There is a considerable gap between your Telugu films, what is the reason?

There are various factors that come into play. For example, Krishna and his Leela was shot in 2015, but it released in 2020. Sometimes, there will be a delay in shoot, or in release and a few times, I won’t find the right script. I am ready to star in as many films as possible.

How was it to work with the director, Ravikanth Perepu?

When Ravikanth narrated me the role of Ruksar, I understood it was close to my real life. I did not meet him before acting in this film. He was really happy with the way I was playing Ruksar and used to say he is glad to have met a real life extension of his Ruksar character. What more can an actor as for than their director’s appreciation.

You are a good dancer, what are the chances of you doing a dance-oriented film?

Yes, definitely. I definitely wish to express my dancing skills in my films. I would be really glad to play a classical dancer and if possible, also a clasical singer in one of my films. That would be my dream project.

What is your next Telugu project?

‘Maa Vintha Gaadha Vinuma’ will be my next Telugu film. I am playing a complete orthodox Tamil girl in this film and it has a unique lovestory. I feel this film will give me a new image in Tollywood.

Many actresses have spoken about ‘Mee too’ movement, did you face any such situations in your career?

No no… I personally did not face any such situations. If I had faced any such situations, I would have walked out.

Describe the actors that you have worked with in one word

Sharwanand – Composed person
Sandeep Kishan – On the go
Nagarjuna – Humble
Ravi Teja – Energetic, and dynamic personality
Siddhu – Expressive
Rahul Ravindran – Generous human being
