Mani Ratnam’s most awaited film ‘Ponniyin Selvan: 1’, which was released on September 30, witnessed an exceptional opening in India and overseas. Although the periodic film faced tough competition from Hrithik Roshan’s Vikram Vedha, it posted strong numbers everywhere.
The latest update is that the movie breached the $2 Million mark at the USA box office on day 1. While it collected $1 Million from the premiers alone, the first day recorded another $1M from the next day, taking the total above the $2M mark. As per the makers, the movie is running with full occupancies in the USA and it is setting new benchmarks.
Ponniyin Selvan: 1 stars Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles. The two-part franchise is bankrolled by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. It has music composed by AR Rahman.
