Following the incident that took place in Siddipet, where the house of Raghunandan Rao’s kin’s house was searched without a proper warrant, Telangana BJP, ABVP and BJYM decided to take part in the “Chalo Pragathi Bhavan’ protest march. However, this march was abruptly stopped by the Police department, by placing several BJP leaders under house arrest.
Even before the protest began, several police personnel were deployed around BJP vice-president D K Aruna, MLC Ramachandra Rao, MLA Raja Singh and senior leader Motkupalli Narasimhulu’s houses, after which they were all put under house arrest. DK Aruna was not even let out when she said she wanted to go to Dubbaka, to take part in the campaign for the upcoming elections. Ramachandra Rao said that the house arrest was a murder of democracy.
Raghunandan Rao is the BJP’s candidate for the Dubbaka by-elections, who also contested in the previous elections and lost. The police had raided his kin’s house in Siddipet and found Rs. 19 Lakhs in the house, which was the main reason for the disturbance to be caused in the first place.
Following these raids, the BJP leaders called for the protest to Pragathi Bhavan, to complain about the high-handedness of the police, and also against the arrest of BJP Telangana leader Bandi Sanjay. The BJP members also made it clear that the incidents that took place in Siddipet would be taken to the notice of chief electoral officer and the governor.
