The NGT has confirmed that the AP government has committed contempt of court in the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation project, and has ordered an investigation into whether the officers have previously been to jail in other contempt of court cases. It has been stated that nothing of that sort has taken place so far. The NGT also asked whether they can send the convicted officers to jail directly, or if they have to send them through the High Court.
The NGT was further outraged after looking at the photos submitted by the Telangana government, and even the Krishna Board committee was late in submitting its report, while the Union Environment Ministry did not submit any reports. It has been said that it is understandable that the situations have gone awry regarding the project, but the AP government said that all works have been stopped since the 7th.
The Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project is being constructed at Sangameshwaram in the Kurnool district, and the Krishna Board did not give its approval for the projects as the NGT and DPR did not give the project environmental permits. Yet, the AP government went ahead with the project, by giving out contracts. If the NGT now finds out that any work took place at the project from 7th, then CS Adityanath Das would be jailed, which would cause a huge sensation.
