Peeved over poor conduct of polls back in his home state, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who shifted his camp to Delhi to intensify his fight against the Election Commission over malfunctioning of EVMs, also appears determine to intensify his fight against his bête noir Narendra Modi.
After meeting the Election Commission officials and lodging his protests, Naidu also apparently met the NCP leaders, one of the potential allies, to appeal to the Congress President Rahul Gandhi to field his sister and most charismatic party campaigner Priyanka Gandhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is contesting from Varanasi.
The Congress is yet to announce its candidate from Varanasi, from where the Prime Minister is contesting.
As the Opposition-led by Congress is determined to defeat Modi in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls and recapture power at the Centre, has now come up with the proposal to field Priyanka, instead of her husband Robert Vadras, whose name is making rounds in political circles as the possible candidate of the party against Modi.
If one has to believe the national TV channel reports, no sooner Naidu spoke to NCP chief Sharad Pawar, the proposal of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s name cropped up as the ideal candidate to upset Modi’s winning chances in the Varanasi, the Hindus most sought-after piligrimage centre.
Naidu’s determination defeat Modi seems to have multiplied with the way the polls are conducted in his home state on Friday. He would like to spare no effort go waste to defeat Modi. Interestingly, Congress made Priyanka responsible for campaigning, especially in Eastern UP under which the Varanasi parliament constituency falls. She was entrusted the job to ensure maximum number of party nominees victory in this part of UP, along with Scindia.
Whether, the Congress will consider its potential allies request to take the risk of fielding Priyanka Gandhi Vadras or not, only time will tell.
Political analysts feel Priyanka is the last hope for the Congress and it led Opposition allies to ensure Modi’s defeat. But, what if she loses to Modi? Will it be end of the road to Congress as she happens to be the last ‘hope’ or ‘bet’ of the dynasty?
Already, the BJP-led NDA camp is celebrating of the Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s decision to look alternative constituency to their family pocket borough, Amethi, to Waynad in Kerala, where party expects ‘sure win’.
If she (Priyanka) wins defeating Modi, then Naidu may as well shot into fame in national politics and occupy centre stage to play active role in national politics as he did in the past.
