The summer season, typically a lucrative time for the Telugu film industry with major releases, has seen a downturn this year. Historically, each week of summer would bring a new big or mid-tier movie to audiences. However, this season has been disappointing.
April’s sole significant release was “Family Star” featuring Vijay Deverakonda, which unfortunately did not meet expectations. The following releases, “Gitanjali is back again,” “Parijata Parvam,” and “Tenant,” also failed to make an impact, with the latter two suffering from lackluster direction and failing to draw attention. The dubbed movie “Ratnam” released last week also disappointed.
May’s lineup includes “Aa Okkati Adakku,” “Krishnamma,” “Jitender Reddy,” “Prasanna Vadanam,” “Baak,” “Sabari,” and “Gangs of Godavari.” Among these, “Aa Oktei Adakku” with Allari Naresh and Vishwak Sen’s “Gangs of Godavari” are garnering some buzz.
Despite these releases, the absence of any major films in April and May, especially with the delay of Prabhas’ “Kalki,” has been a significant setback. Consequently, the summer of 2024 has not lived up to the industry’s expectations.
