It is known news that India has recorded as many as 24 Covid-19 cases of the newly discovered Omicron variant. Travellers arriving from at-risk countries found positive for Coronavirus and their swab samples were sent for genome sequencing and the test report confirmed that they were carrying the Omicron strain.
However, Maharashtra’s first case of the Omicron variant, a 33-year-old marine engineer, has tested negative for the virus. A resident of the Kalyan-Dombivli municipal area near Mumbai, the man was unvaccinated and had shown up at the Delhi airport from South Africa via Dubai before flying to Mumbai in the last week of November.
After undergoing treatment at COVID Care Centre in Kalyan town, he was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and advised to stay in home quarantine for seven days.
“He was discharged as he tested negative for the infection. As per the standard protocol, his two RT-PCR tests were conducted, and both came out negative. He is perfectly all right now and there are no symptoms,” Commissioner of KDMC Dr Vijay Suryavanshi, told reporters. Maharashtra has so far reported 10 cases of the Omicron variant.
