The amount of drama that is going on in Andhra Pradesh, with respect to conducting the local body elections, is just too much to take in. The Andhra Pradesh government is strictly against the elections being conducted right now, while the SEC, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, is adamant about conducting the elections right now.
Following the Supreme Court’s judgement today, which was on the same terms as the judgement given by the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, it is to be seen how the AP government will now react. There are, however, many expectations that the government would still refrain from cooperating with the SEC to conduct the elections.
The SEC has already released a new, revised notification for the elections, where the dates have been pushed since no returning officer has released any notification yet. If the state government refrains from cooperating, chances are that state government employees will also do the same.
Keeping this in mind, Nimmagadda is said to have written a letter to the Union Cabinet Secretary, requesting to allow the SEC permission to conduct the elections with the help of Central Government employees.
Given that there are also chances that the state Police department may also not provide its assistance to the SEC, the SEC will conduct the elections with the help of Police force sent in by the Central government.
