Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been trying to shift the Executive Capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam for a long time now. However, all of his plans have always met with hurdles, with the High Court of Andhra Pradesh giving stay orders on the shifting of the capital, based on the petitions filed by the farmers of Amaravati.
Fresh hearings on the petitions submitted by Amaravati farmers, opposing the three capitals’ formation and the abolition of AP Capital Region Development Authority have been taken up from May 3rd in the AP High Court. A three-member bench, headed by chief justice Arup Kumar Goswami, took up the hearing on the shifting of the executive capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam on Monday. This case has now been postponed to August 23rd.
As a result of the prevailing situations of Coronavirus in the country and in AP, the AP High Court is in no position to conduct daily hearings, which is proving to be a major setback to the judiciary and to the government as well.
With the capital shifting hearings postponed to August 23rd, Jagan’s plans of shifting the executive capital to Visakhapatnam on May 6th has once again been affected. On the other hand, the hearing of the petitions filed for the cancellation of SSC board exams and postponement of the 12th board exams is expected to be taken up on June 2nd.
