The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a key decision regarding the Covid-19 vaccination drive in the state. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that the Covid vaccine will be given free of cost to all those above 18 years of age from May 1. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting with ministers and officials on Friday.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, AP Health Minister Alla Nani said that the state has discussed the issue of coronavirus extensively and CM Jagan has taken some decisions for controlling the virus.
“The vaccine is important for controlling the virus. From the beginning, the AP government has been giving priority to it. As part of this, the Chief Minister decided to provide the vaccine free of cost to everyone over 18 years of age. The AP government is planning to spend Rs 1,600 crore to vaccinate the people,” the Minister said.
Alla Nani also revealed that CM Jagan has already spoken to Bharat Biotech Managing Director Krishna Ella and Hetero Drugs MD Partha Sarathi about the supply of the vaccine. The CM phoned them and asked to supply more vaccine doses for the needs of the state.
