Telangana Chief Minister KCR considers himself to be an intellectual and a highly knowledgable person. given that, it comes as a surprise that his statement on the Telangana government withdrawing from the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), a crop insurance scheme for farmers, is drawing a lot of criticism not only from farmers but also from everyone else.
KCR’s explanation for withdrawing from the insurance is that companies are getting benefitted due to payment of premium from farmers, state government and Centre but farmers are getting a lower amount in return while settling claims during crop loss on account of heavy rains or floods. This statement is drawing a lot of criticism from all corners, given that insurances are paid for, by a majority of the population.
An insurance, in and of itself, is paid for, by customers, because they would want to make sure that they have sufficient money, in case something happens to them, or their properties, or vehicles, or other things. As such, no amount of premium paid for, by the customers usually goes in vain. As a result, KCR’s statements aren’t making much sense, and are drawing a lot of criticism.
