Jagan urges Governor to ensure EVMs protection

YSR Congress President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday met the Governor ESL Narasimhan and seeks his intervention to intervene and ensure safety of EVMs parked in strong rooms, as well restrain annihilation of his colleagues by the ruling party goons.

In his letter to the Governor, Jagan charged Naidu with misuse of power to vitiate law and order situation in the state.

He wanted the EVMs, which are stored in ‘strong rooms’ may be guarded by the central para-military forces and certainly not by the state police as they lost faith of the people.  To strengthen his argument, he cited reports how unauthorised people managed to sneak into one such campus in Machilipatnam.

Later speaking to media persons, he said; “we have lodged a complaint with the Governor that Naidu has given a ‘free hand’ to his henchmen who unleash rein of terror and also eliminate his political opponents, especially my party workers.”  He cited various many instances of violence which is still unabated and attacks on YSRCP cadre are going on unchecked by the state police.

He alao alleged that Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao had barged into a polling booth and locked himself up creating a vicious atmosphere.  He was responsible for whipping up tempers, provoking violence.  But, the police remained a silent spectators and later on his instruction registered false cases against his party activists.

The budget approved before the general elections is an vote-on-account one and it should be seen that he does not misuse funds by giving largesse to his favoured few.

Referring to Naidu’s complaint the Election Commission against EVMs nothing short of theatrics as he could sense ‘defeat’ is staring at him and his party.

“That’s why he is going berserk against the Election Commission and his own upright bureaucrats, who refused to toe his line,” he alleged.  “Shouldn’t he accept the ‘defeat’ with ‘grace’ instead indulging in such political hara-kiri.

“Did we complain against EVMs when we lost in 2014.  That too by.5 per cent or just 5lakh votes we polled less than the TDP,” he pointed out.
