For the past few weeks, the State Election Commission and the government of Andhra Pradesh have been at war with the other over when the local body elections should be conducted in the state. While the SEC has been trying its best to conduct the elections as soon as possible, the government is not ready to do so, and is citing the spread of Coronavirus as the reason for it.
The SEC has subsequently filed a petition in the High Court, in which it has stated that the government is not cooperating with it, with respect to conducting the local body elections. Today, the HC has finally given its verdict, and has asked the government to cooperate with the SEC, and said that it is the SEC that has the sole right to take a decision with respect to when the elections should be conducted and said that the government should simply cooperate with the SEC.
Furthermore, the HC also asked the government to send 3 representatives to the SEC, to discuss and come up with a plan for the local body elections. The HC has also asked the government to submit a file of what has been discussed, before the 29th of this month, as the next hearing for this case would be taken up on that date.
The SEC has clearly stated that it would keep in mind, and would cooperate with the Central Government, with respect to the circulation of the vaccine, whenever the Center releases the schedule for the circulation and administration of the vaccine.
