Hero Sundeep Kishan and actor Bobby Simha’s Gully Rowdy is carrying decent buzz among the audience. Directed by G Nageshwar Reddy, the film had its theatrical release today. Let’s check how it is.

Story:

To bring back the lost glory of his family Vasu’s( Sundeep Kishan) grandfather raises him as a Rowdy. As a Gully Rowdy, Vasu faces a tough challenge in safeguarding Venkat Rao’s ( Rajendra Prasad) property from a local criminal cop Raghu Naik( Bobby Simha). What kind of incidents happen between Vasu and Raghu Naik interlinked with Venkat Rao’s property? Forms the crucial crux of the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Sundeep Kishan leads the show from the front end with his energetic performance but goes overboard in a few heroic elevation scenes. Though his screen presence is an advantage for the movie, due to the poorly designed character, it fails to create any impact. Bobby Simha gets a meaty role but most of his scenes remain us of the 90s antagonist. His confrontation episodes with Sundeep Kishan lack freshness and dilutes the audience attention.

Heroine Neha Shetty is cute and her chemistry with Sundeep Kishan is adorable but has a limited significance. Other actors such as Rajendra Prasad, Viva Harsha, Posani Krishna Murali are alright in their roles. Vennela Kishore’s comedy track fails to evoke laughs.

What about off-screen talents?

Director G Nageshwar Reddy, who earlier made Tenali Ramakrishna BA.BL with Sundeep Kishan directs Gully Rowdy. Though the director tried moulding the film into a commercial entertainer, the poor presentation and outdated screenplay stand tall as demerits. If the team has focused on writing a better scene order by incorporating more fun elements in the proceedings, the result would have been much better.

Music by Chowrasta Ram and Sai Kartheek is okay as audio-wise two songs are good but visually they picturized poorly. The background score is loud at parts but overall there is nothing great to put it here. The cinematography by Sujatha Siddharth is okay. Chota K Prasad’s editing is adequate as he kept the film’s runtime within the limits. Production values for this tight-budget film are decent.

Plus Points:

  • Pre-interval kidnap drama
  • A few entertaining episodes

Minus Points:

  • Story
  • Outdated Narration

Verdict:

In an overview, Gully Rowdy is a formulaic entertainer that lacks a gripping screenplay and engaging presentation. Though Sundeep Kishan, Bobby Simha, Rajendra Prasad did their part quite decently, lack of sharp writing and no proper depth in the characters makes it a disappointing watch.
