Ulchala Hariprasada Reddy, a senior journalist, and who has worked with Eenadu Newspaper for over two decades, has been given a key post by the YSRCP government, with Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appointing Hariprasada as the new Right to Information Commissioner in the Andhra Pradesh State Right to Information Commission.
Senior advocate Kakarla Channa Reddy has been appointed as the RTI commissioner along with Hariprasada, at a meeting convened by the Chief Minister at the state secretariat on Tuesday. Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan is expected to issue a notification this evening, with his approval of the same.
The High Court had recently expressed its displeasure towards the AP government, regarding its delay in appointing RTI commissioners, and the delay in appointing a full-fledged commission.
It is widely assumed that Eenadu is anti-Jagan and pro-Telugu Desam Party, which is causing a lot of shock among political circles, as Hariprasada has been appointed as an RTI commissioner by Jagan. However, this is not the first time that an Eenadu editor has been made an RTI commissioner, as Dileep Reddy was also made an RTI commissioner in the past, by YS Rajasekhar Reddy. This also brings to the forefront the neutrality that Hariprasada maintained in Eenadu, while he was the editor.
