Covid-19: Manipur government urges Ambulances to mute sirens amid rising panic

With increasing emergency cases and deaths in public due to second wave of covid-19, it is highly certain that the ambulances move around the roads.

In this context, the Manipur government has ordained for muting sirens of ambulances in the state as a responsibility to mitigate anxiety and panic among the public amid the alarming rise of COVID-19, officials stated.

The state’s medical directorate, in a notice, compelled chief medical officers, medical superintendents, staff of private hospitals and ambulance operators to silence sirens as they are panicking people and causing social anxiety.

The memorandum notice also read, “Only if roads are blocked, sirens should be activated”. The state government had earlier imposed curfew in the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Ukhrul, Thoubal, Kakching and Churachandpur on May 8, which has been prolonged till May 28.

On the other hand the Manipur high court insisted Union of India on 18th to resolve the issue of ‘providing adequate financial assistance’ to the State of Manipur to meet the increasing demands owing to the crisis amid pandemic.

Manipur on Tuesday recorded 624 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the case load count to 40,683.
