The number of cases of breakthrough infections after taking the Covid-19 vaccine continues to rise worldwide. According to central government reports, about 2.6 lakh people in India have been diagnosed with breakthrough infections so far.
However, the central government has clarified that there are no records of a new variant being found in genomic sequencing. Sources in the Union Health Ministry said that those who received two doses of vaccine are less likely to get a breakthrough infection.
The government has so far administered 56 Cr vaccine doses across the country. Of these, the first dose was given to 44 crore people. Two doses were completed for 12 crore people. At the same time, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genome Sequencing Consortium (INSACOG), headed by the Union Ministry of Health, is constantly monitoring the chances of re-infection, virus mutations and new variants after vaccination.
As part of this, it was found that the coronavirus was found in 70 lakh people who took the first dose. The number of people infected with the virus after taking two more doses was 87 thousand. Although it is worrying that there is an increase in the number of breakthrough infections, health experts say there is no risk.
However, 46 per cent of the total cases are from Kerala. The state reported close to 80,000 Covid cases after the first dose of vaccination, while 40,000 people were reported infected after the second dose.
