Cobra Review: Execution syndrome

Run Time 3 hr 3 Mins
Release Date 31st August 2022

Kollywood star Vikram’s new film, Cobra has hit the screens today simultaneously in Telugu as well. Let’s see how it goes.

Story:

The film takes off with the scenes related to Madhi( Vikram) a maths genius. Using his intelligence in the mathematics, Madhi starts committing murders for a baddie named Rishi ( Roshan Mathew) in the day light by shifting to various getups. As the film comes towards the interval, a major twist in the tale is unveiled. How will the twist turn the tables? What is the role of Interpol officer Aslan (Irfan Pathan)? To know that, you have to watch the film at the nearest cinemas.

On-screen performances:

Vikram did his part perfectly. The way his carried the role and fitted in various getups bring depth to the proceedings.

Malayalam actor Roshan Mathew is good in his baddie role. Cricketer turned actor Irfan Pathan is decent as Interpol officer.

Heroine Srinidhi Shetty is fine on screen but her role and chemistry with Vikram is not showcased in a proper manner. Mrinalini Ravi and Meenakshi Govindarajan are okay in their extended cameo roles.

Other artists such as KS Ravikumar, John Vijay are okay in their respective roles.

Off-screen Talents:

The photography work by Bhuvan Srinivasan and Harish Kannan is apt for the lavish setup created for the film.

The music by AR Rahman is okay to an extent. While the songs fail to register, the background score is impressive at parts.

Editing by Bhuvan Srinivasan and John Abraham is totally disappointing as close to half an hour of the film can be chopped off easily. Production values for this star-stunned film are grand.

Coming to the director Ajay Gnanamuthu, his idea of making an intense drama by incorporating mathematical tricks is good but he failed to handel the script in a convincing manner.

Positive Points:

  • Vikram
  • Interval twist

Negative Points:

  • Screenplay
  • Lengthy runtime

Verdict:

In an overview, Cobra is a mathematics incorporated action drama that has good performance for Vikram. While the on paper idea of the film is good, director struggled to execute in a proper manner.
