Starring debutantes Munna and Drushika Chander in the lead roles, Buchinaidu Kandriga Thurpu Veedhi premiered on Aha today. The film wrapped shoot a while ago, but could not see the limelight. Let us see what the Krishna Poluru directorial has in store for the viewers.
Story:
The film opens with a dialogue from Pawan Kalyan’s Suswagatham. Balu(Munna) falls in love with his neighbour Swapna(Drushika) and she reciprocates equal love and affection towards him. However, Swapna’s father has a casteist ideology and goes to any extent to uphold his prestige. He opposes his daughter’s love interest. Consequently, the young couple try to elope and the rest of the story unveils the numerous challenges they face in the process.
How about on-screen performances?
Debut actors Munna and Drushika deliver impressive performances and they act particularly well in childhood episodes. Munna could have done better in emotional episodes. C/O Kancharapalem fame Subba Rao who plays casteist father emotes well and looks very mature. Lambu-Jambu who play supporting roles in childhood episodes tickle the funny bones. The rest of the star cast perform to the best of their capabilities.
How about off-screen talents?
The film is backed by excellent cinematography and background score. The director of photography Maheshan captures the rustic visuals of countryside locales very well. He is complemented in an effective manner by Mahiramsh who comes up with an impressive background score.
Coming to the commander in chief, Krishna Poluru, he picks a routine subject that has nothing new to offer. A young couple being threatened by a casteist parent is a beaten to death plotline and Krishna tries to weave a story around it. But sadly, the screenplay and treatment are routine as well. The dialogues which are mouthed with a rural dialect are partly impressive though. The film has a run-time of 2 hours 5 minutes and Marthand K Venkatesh, the editor, could have easily chopped off another 30 minutes and it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. The director fails to get the emotional connect right and that is a big no-no for a love story.
What’s hot?
Beautiful visuals
Compelling soundtrack
Nativity and childhood episodes
What’s not?
Routine story
Substandard screenplay
Seems lengthy
Lack of emotional connect
No entertainment
Dragged second half
Verdict:
Buchinaidu Kandriga Thurpu Veedhi is a love story that offers nothing new or impressive in terms of storytelling or presentation. Chittoor dialect has been used extensively and that could be considered as the only interesting aspect of the film. The lack of emotional connect further dampens the viewing experience.
