BMC assigns new responsibility to committee members of sealed buildings

In a move to ensure strict surveilance, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has planned to realign the containment zones in the city, making them ‘watertight’. The novel rules in the lockdown phase 4.0 not only pave towards effective management but also could bring a sigh of relief to Mumbaikars.

Hereafter there will be ‘containment zones’ and ‘sealed buildings owing to the new rules. The broader area or zone in a city will be demarcated into containment zone and will be closely monitored by the police and civic officials.

The BMC on Sunday reported its new containment plan on Sunday, as indicated by which, just buildings where positive cases are discovered will be sealed and not the whole compound. This comes as a modification of previous strategy where the whole society was ascertained as a regulation zone and completely sealed.

“sealed building has diminished the quantity of containment regions in Mumbai to 1,110 which was earlier 2,801. Another classification in sealed building has been added to the regulation zone where 661 such structures have been identified under this category.

The ownership for maintaining social distancing will be with the chairman and secretary of housing societies, while the civic body will advise and monitor the committee about the guidelines to be followed. Chairmen and secretaries could even be booked under section 188 of IPC, if members flout containment rules.

Sealed buildings in containment zones will be hereafter managed by the housing societies. Earlier, the civic body would supply essential commodities involving groceries to buildings in containment zones. But currently on passing the new lock down rule, it has now decided to allocate the local vendors to the chairman and secretary of management committees of the sealed buildings. These committee members will place orders to vendors, who will assist in delivering the items to their respective buildings.
