The campaigning for Bihar elections was in full swing, until very recently, despite the pandemic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had campaigned in Bihar himself, and judging by the way that things are turning out for the BJP in Bihar, looks like Modi’s charisma has indeed worked.
The Grand Alliance, led by Tejashwi Yadav, is the main opposition for the NDA. If the NDA wins this time, Nitish Kumar will be the Chief Minister of the state of Bihar for the 4th consecutive term. While the NDA is leading without a doubt, Nitish Kumar’s JDU is leading in fewer seats, when compared to BJP. The JDU has contested 122 seats, while the BJP has contested 121 seats, making BJP emerge as the single largest party in Bihar.
The counting of votes began this morning in Bihar, and all safety precautions are being followed in light of Coronavirus. It is estimated that over 7 Crore voters are present in the state, making Bihar’s elections the biggest in the country ever since the pandemic.
The opposition, led by Tejashwi Yadav, the son of former Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, has criticised the ruling alliance of BJP-JDU for its failure in creating employment, and the way the pandemic has been handled. However, PM Modi’s words of ‘Jungle-Raj’, referencing to the way the state was run before Nitish Kumar was made the CM, seems to have resonated with the people of Bihar, making the NDA-JDU alliance now lead over any other party.
