Historic: Ayodhya’s Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Bhumi Puja

For over a hundred years, legal disputes over Lord Shri Ram’s temple in his birthplace, Ayodhya, have been going on. For over five hundred years, cultural and social issues about the same have been going on, after Babur – the Mughal invader – constructed a mosque in the place of an already existing temple in the same place. This is a historic event that generations of people have been waiting to witness forever.

In December 1992, the Babri Masjid was demolished, and a temple for Lord Shri Ram was to be constructed, in its original place. However, that did not happen, and the issue was prolonged for nearly 3 more decades, before Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally took part in the Bhoomi Puja today, and laid down the foundation brick for the construction of Lord Shri Ram’s temple.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, all of whom made sure to follow social distancing and other precautions, so as to not risk contracting Coronavirus. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel, Rashtriya Swayam Sevak (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat were some of the most important dignitaries who attended the event along with the Prime Minister.

The Bhoomi Puja was done at exactly 12:44:08 PM, among vedic chantings, during which the Prime Minister laid the foundation with a silver brick, marking the construction of Lord Ram’s temple.

Before taking part in the puja, PM Modi visited the Hanuman Garhi Temple and offered his prayers, after which he made his way to the puja.
