In a surprising incident, a 19-year-old student, who was not allowed to write the test for wearing shorts, was made to wrap a curtain around her legs to sit for the exam in Assam’s Tezpur town.
Going into details, on Wednesday, a student named Jublee Tamuli came to write the entrance exam of Jorhat’s Assam Agricultural University (AAU) at the Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (GIPS) exam venue. She travelled 70 km from her hometown, Biswanath Chariali, to Tezpur with her father. However, trouble started in the exam hall.
The security guards allowed her to enter the centre. But, the invigilator stopped her from writing the exam for not wearing a proper dress code. According to Jublee, the admit card did not mention any dress code. Finally, the Controller of Exams said to her that she could take the exam if they could arrange a pair of pants.
With this, her father travelled 8 km to the market and brought her trousers. In the meantime, she covered her legs with a curtain and wrote the test. “It was the most humiliating event of my life,” she said.
Dr Abdul Baquee Ahmed, principal, GIPS, said he was not present in college but aware that such an incident had happened. “There is no rule about shorts, but during an exam, decorum must be maintained. Parents should also know better,” he said.
