The second wave of Covid-19 since a month had been taking an inadvertent rise in India. As 40,000 new cases have been reported in a single day, the centre is now gearing up to have more stricter measures to curb the spread of the viral infection.
Amid these conditions, Schools and colleges were opened in few areas across the nation after the caseload had reduced drastically. However, covid in second wave took an ugly turn putting every one in utter dismay.
With the latest spurt in the spread of the virus wherein five private schools in Telangana reported covid cases, along with a total of 39 students of two government-run hostels and a school tested positive, health officials opined temporary lockdown is one good option.
Reportedly, Of the 39 students, 21 were residing at Scheduled Tribes (STs) Boys hostel. A total of 92 were staying in the hostel and have been subjected to regular Covid-19 testing. The hostel has been closed after 21 students residing in it got positive for the virus.
“A team from the health department has conducted tests at the boys hostel and 21 of them tested positive,” tribal welfare department commissioner Christina Z Chongthu stated.
A tally of 16 cases were reported from Mahatma Gandhi Jyotibha Phule Girls BC Welfare Residential School in Pitlam. Subsequently, 200 students and 14 staff amassed for RT-PCR tests and the results are awaited.
