YSRCP’s victory due to anti-incumbency vote?

With YSRCP witnessing a historic victory in Andhra Pradesh, and no other parties are not even close to the mark set by the Jagan’s party, a few opine that it could be due to the anti-incumbency vote.

In the last five years, there were several instances where TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu has come up with changing his words. Especially, special category status was promised to Andhra Pradesh, after the bifurcation of Telugu states. But Naidu couldn’t raise his voice against it completely.

At a point of time, he also tried to convince people, that special package is equivalent to special status which severely affected his image in the state. On the flip side, just before the elections, he again resumed his fight against the Centre, demanding special status, which was considered as a political stunt for mileage in the elections.

If this is the case with Naidu, on the other side, Jagan Mohan Reddy has successfully conducted Padayatra across the state, and reached out to every nook and was in direct contact with the public. He never flipped his words and strategically went forward with the standard criticisms on the opposition leaders. He followed the path laid by his father Late YS Rajashekar Reddy and thus was able to catch the public pulse perfectly.

So anti-incumbency vote may not be the sole reason for YSRCP victory in the state, but even Jagan’s contributions have played a major role.
