Writer Padmabhushan Review: Entertaining & Emotional Roller Coaster

Writer Padmabhushan is a Telugu-language comedy & family entertainer which is directed by debut director Shanmukha Prasanth. The film stars Suhas, Tina Shilparaj, Rohini, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Sri Gouri Priya in the lead roles. The Music is composed by Shekhar Chandra & Kalyan Nayak. The film is produced by Anurag Reddy, Sharath Chandra & Chandru Manoharan under Chai Bisket Films & Lahari Films banner.

Story:

Padmabhushan (Suhas) is a 25-year-old aspiring writer who lives in Vijayawada with his middle-class family (Ashish Vidyarthi & Rohini). His marriage is fixed with Sarika (Tina) after her father comes to know about a book that is published on Padmabhushan’s name and they think that Padmabhushan is a great writer. But the twist in the tale is that the book is actually not written by him. Who has written it? What are the consequences after the truth is revealed? Needs to be seen in the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Suhas once again proves his mettle as an actor with this film, but this time in a more comical and emotional role. He is spot-on with his comic timing and all his fun scenes are the biggest plus of the film.

Rohini Molleti is another standout performer in the film. She just kills it with her emotional act towards the end. She will definitely move some of us to tears.

Tina Shilparaj looked good in a few scenes and pretty ordinary at a few others. She still needs to improve a lot with her expressions and body language.

Gouri Priya comes at a crucial juncture at the interval. Even she couldn’t score well with her performance. A better-known actress would have surely made a big difference in this role.

Ashish Vidyarthi leaves a mark as the hero’s father and he too does well in the final act.

Praveen who plays the hero’s friend fails to impress.

The rest of the supporting cast are fine.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Shanmukha Prasanth is excellent. The plot point/message that he wanted to convey towards the end is very relatable and has an instant connection to many families.

The screenplay is fine. There are some really good twists in the film. But the way they are brought into the script and presented on screen needed more fine-tuning.

Shanmukha Prasanth scores pass marks with his directorial debut. Though his presentation had a few issues here and there, all his minor drawbacks get overshadowed by the last 20 minutes of the film.

The camera work by Venkat R Shakamuri is good. He has showcased Vijayawada in the best way possible.

Music by Shekhar Chandra & Kalyan Nayak are good. ‘Kannullo Nee Roopame’ is the best song of the album. ‘Aybaboi Gandaragolam’ gels well with the narrative.

The background score by Kalyan Nayak is pretty decent and so is the edit by Kodati Pavan Kalyan & Siddharth Thatholu.

The production values by Chai Bisket Films & Lahari Films are adequate for a film like this.

What’s Hot?

  • Emotional Last 20 Minutes
  • Climax With A Very Relatable Point & Meaningful Message
  • Suhas’s Performance
  • Rohini’s Performance
  • Good Background Score
  • Decent Comedy Scenes In Both Halves

What’s Not?

  • Both Heroine Performances
  • Half Baked Screenplay
  • Immature Presentation At A Few Places

Verdict: Overall Writer Padmabhushan is a clear family entertainer which will leave you on an emotional note with a thought-provoking message at the end. Watch it with your parents!!
