It is known that Bharat Biotech has been waiting for the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s nod for the grant of Emergency Use Listing (EUL) of its Covid-19 vaccine ‘Covaxin’. The vaccine was applied to WHO on April 19 for approval for emergency use.
However, the WHO clarified on Monday that it was not in a hurry to allow the emergency use and was expecting additional information from the Hyderabad based biotechnology company before it evaluates the vaccine.
The WHO has written a series of tweets from its official Twitter handle regarding the same. “We are aware that many people are waiting for WHO’s recommendation for Covaxin to be included in the #COVID19 Emergency Use Listing, but we cannot cut corners — before recommending a product for emergency use, we must evaluate it thoroughly to make sure it is safe and effective,” the WHO said.
The organisation said that once the required info is provided, the WHO and its Technical Advisory Group would wrap up the evaluation and come to a final recommendation on whether to grant EUL to the vaccine.
Meanwhile, the Organisation’s Chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said that the technical advisory group will assemble on October 26 to decide on the EUL of Covaxin.
