Wet-run successful on Kaleswaram irrigation first pump

A wet-run conducted on Wednesday on Kaleswaram lift irrigation project’s first pump set proved successful, claims the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao.  He appreciated all those engineers and officials involved in making the multi-crore project a success.

“With a capacity of 124.4 megawatts capacity pumps, lifting of water up to 105 meters high is a tough task.  Yet,  out engineers’ executed it with ease which is commendable,” said the CM and added; ‘’by utilizing that much heavy capacity pumps is also first of its kind in Asian continent and India stands in first place and the credit should be given to Telangana’’.

An official press note released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that the irrigation officials held several brainstorming sessions to resolve the irrigation problems being faced by farmers of Telangana.  However, the efforts not gone waste as they succeeded finally to ensure Pranahita waters mix into river Godavari at Kaleshwram, thus assuring availability of water in future.  He said the option before them was to lift waters to much greater heights to accomplish the task.

Now, he said this would help irrigate about 40 lakh acres of agriculture land in Telangana, especially in northern districts, which were hitherto been drought-probe year-after year though two major rivers pass through the state.

“It’s no mean achievement by our engineers.  Truly commendable,” Chief Minister pointed out.

He said, for meticulous planning of his government as well seeking the defence ministry’s permission to use their radars to conduct land surveys, also proved fruitful.

“With defined planning Kaleswaram project has been conceptualized. To lift waters from Godavari though tried in the past, but failed. But, our success was our decision to use 139 MW huge capacity pump sets to lift the water.   In the past efforts were only restricted to lift water up to 80-85 metres, while this time around we raised the height to 120 metres,” the press note claimed.

“To implement this scheme our Engineers and officials have even gone abroad. After conducting thorough study, acquiring complete knowledge the works in the state on the project commenced. With the blessings of Almighty, everything went on well,” he added.

Chief Minister hoped that Kaleswaram project will certainly bring in a new life for people engaged in agriculture sector.
