Vikram Review: Only for a few action blocks

Movie Name Vikram
Star Cast Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathu, Fahadh Faasil
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj
Producer Kamal Haasan, R. Mahendran
Music Anirudh Ravichander
Run Time 2 hr 53 Mins
Release Date 3 June 2022

Vikram starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil in key roles had a simultaneous release in Telugu. Let’s check how it is.

Story:

In the process to tracking a missing cocaine container, a few serial murders happen. To investigate the case, police officials being on board Amar( Fahadh Faasil) a undercover. What interesting aspects will Amar find out in the investigation? How are Santhanam(Vijay Sethupathi) and Vikram ( Kamal Haasan) interconnected with the missing cocaine container, forms the rest of the plotline.

On-screen performances:

Kamal Haasan’s look and his screen presence are a plus point for the film. Acting-wise, he yet again delivered a good performance in the role that has multiple shades.

Fahadh Faasil is apt in the investigation officer role. His acting in a couple of key scenes in the second half are good and has emotional connectivity. Undoubtedly, Vijay Sethupathi impresses with his commanable acting in the negative shaded character. His confrontation episodes with Kamal Haasan add weightage to the proceedings in the second half.

Other artists who played supporting roles gave a convincing performance in their key roles.

Off-screen Talents:

Anirudh’s music is a major plus for this actioner. While a couple of situational songs are passable with the narrative, his background score registers big-time and elevates a few action blocks superbly.

The cinematography work by Girish Gangadharan is good as he captured the film nicely with his lens. Editing by Philomin Raj is okay but would have chopped off a few unwanted slow-paced scenes in the first half for a better cinematic experience.

Production values by this Kamal Haasan’s own production venture are apt for the film’s genre.

Coming to the Lokesh Kanagaraj, his idea of exploring the drug dealing concept on a large scale is good but his execution lacks an effective scene order and presentatation. If he would have worked on the presentation, the result would have been ever better.

Positive Points:

  • Lead cast
  • Music

Negative Points:

  • Screenplay
  • Lengthy runtime

Verdict:

In an overview, Vikram is a social drama that revolves around the drug dealing concept. While Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil gave their best, the uneven naration comes as a major defect for the film. All we suggest is to keep a check on your expectations and watch the film if you are an action freak.
