Veteran singer Bhupinder Singh breathed his last on Monday due to suspected colon cancer and Coronavirus-related complications at a Mumbai hospital.
Known for his popular Bollywood numbers like Dil Dhoondta Hai, Ek Akela Is Shaher Mein, Naam Gum Jaayega, among others, the ace playback singer died at 82.
As per reports, Mr Singh was admitted to a private hospital a few days ago as he had some infection in the urine. The medical tests revealed that he got infected with Covid-19.
“He passed away at around 7.45 pm due to suspected colon cancer and had Covid,” Mitali Mukherjee said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to convey his condolences on the demise of Bhupinder Singh.
“Anguished by the passing away of Shri Bhupinder Singh Ji, who has given memorable songs for decades. His works struck a chord with several people. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi’s tweet read.
Born in Punjab’s Amritsar, the renowned singer worked with biggest names of the music industry, such as RD Burman, Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar and Bappi Lahiri, among others.
