It is very well known that Supreme Court lawyer Aswini Kumar Upadhyaya had written a letter to the Attorney General of India KK Venugopal, a few days ago, seeking Contempt of Court proceedings against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, following Jagan’s letter to the Chief Justice of India, in which the CM criticised Supreme Court Justice NV Ramana.
In his reply, KK Venugopal stated that he couldn’t give his consent for a Contempt of Court proceeding against Jagan, as the CJI is aware of the situation. Now, Upadhyaya has written a second letter to Venugopal, in which he has requested Venugopal’s consent for Contempt of Court proceeding against Jagan, with respect to the fact that Ajay Kallam Reddy has made the letter to the CJI public.
In his letter, Venugopal too agreed to the fact that the letter to the CJI should not have been made public, and this was objectionable and contumacious on the part of the AP Chief Minister and his principal advisor Ajay Kallam Reddy. Upadhyaya is now arguing that he has no objection with the fact that Jagan wrote a letter to the CJI, but with the fact that the contents of the letter were made public.
Upadhyaya has been known to be pro-BJP since the very beginning, and given that Jagan’s relations are cordial with the Central government, it is shocking to see that Upadhyaya continues to press a Contempt of Court proceeding against Jagan, which is reportedly irking the Chief Minister very much.
