Thalapathy Vijay has been fined Rs 1 lakh by the Madras High Court for seeking tax exemption on his imported Rolls-Royce Ghost worth Rs 7.95 crore.
As per reports, the ace actor had approached the High Court seeking tax exemption for the Rolls Royce Ghost car, which was imported from England.
Justice SM Subramaniam, who heard the case, dismissed the writ petition filed by the actor in 2012 and directed him to deposit Rs 1 lakh to the Tamil Nadu CM’s Covid-19 Relief Fund. The court has also asked Vijay to pay the tax due within two weeks.
Justice Subramaniam in his order said, “Those fans see such actors as real heroes. In a state like Tamil Nadu, where such actors have become rulers of the state, they are not expected to behave like a ‘reel hero’. Tax evasion is to be construed as an anti-national habit, attitude and mindset and unconstitutional.”
On the work front, Vijay is currently shooting for his upcoming film ‘Beast’ directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
