The Telangana High Court sent directives to the State government to file counter affidavit in a week in response to the PIL lodged challenging the State policy related to property issue on Dharani portal.
The issue triggered when government began enrolling details of non-agricultural properties on Dharani site in the name of integrated land records management system. To the unversed, Dharani is a portal newly launched to have a hassle free payment of house tax.
Users recently raised concerns that there were glitches and were unable to access the uploaded details. On top of that no acknowledgement or receipt has been furnished from the authority. Reportedly, just 10% to 15% of people’s details were uploaded as of now.
Justice Shameem Akther issued the order on Friday in a motion petition moved by GR Karunakar of Rangareddy district and CV Narayana Rao of the city, who were agitated by the action of the government officials coercing them to upload their property details on Dharani. They termed the government’s said exercise a violation of Article 14, 21, 19 and 300-A of the Constitution of India.
The petitioners’ counsel head P Shashi Kiran appealed the court that the new exercise is causing inconvenience to individuals particularly petitioners to upload their property holdings on a public website, which is absolutely unwarranted and affects the privacy of citizens.
