Three MLAs of the BJP, Raghunandan Rao, Eatala Rajender, and T. Raja Singh, filed a petition in the Telangana High Court recently, after the Assembly speaker suspended them for the rest of the Assembly session term after they reprimanded the Telangana government’s decision to introduce the state budget without an address from the State governor.
Taking strong opposition to that, a petition was filed in the Telangana HC, requesting the HC to undo the suspension, seeing it as illegal and in violation of the Rules of Procedure and the conduct of business in the Assembly, as well as Articles 14, 21, and 194 of the Constitution. A notice to this regard was even sent to the Legislature Secretary, post the submission of the petition. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court issued another notice to the Legislature Secretary directing him to file a counter for a full-fledged hearing and adjourned the hearing by four weeks. The court also refused to give a stay order on the suspension of the three MLAs.
On the other hand, Advocate General BS Prasad, representing the government, requested the court not to intervene in the matters of the legislature, despite which the court seems to be going ahead with its agenda. It is now to be seen what the final verdict of the court would be.
