TDP’s eyes set on the minority vote bank

The minority population of the state of Andhra Pradesh is an ever-growing community, which had a 4% vote share in the 2014 elections, and an increased share of 12% of the total votes in the 2019 elections. The YSRCP had always had the edge and commanded the minority vote bank, given that the late YSR put in a good reservation percentage for the Muslim community.

The YSRCP seems to very much still be in the good book of this minority community, but the Telugu Desam Party has reportedly gotten its eyes on the community. They want to get the support of this community so that they would get a major percentage of votes in the 2024 elections. Given that there was a steep rise in the percentage of the community between 2014 and 2019, it is expected that the percentage would grow even more by 2024.

The TDP is reportedly planning to field 10 candidates from the minority community, and give them seats, especially in the Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur and Vijayawada areas. However, the biggest challenge for them at this time is being pointed out to be the fact that they are unable to find the right candidate for the job. It is now to be seen what the TDP will do, to get the support of the community.
