TDP MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao resigned on Saturday in protest of the privatisation of the Visakhapatnam steel plant. He sent his resignation letter to Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram after the Central government decided to privatize the Visakhapatnam steel plant 100 percent. He also asked the public representatives in the state to be prepared to resign if necessary to prevent the Visakhapatnam steel plant from becoming private.
Ganta Srinivasa Rao contested as a TDP candidate from Visakhapatnam North constituency in the last elections and won as an MLA.
Ganta speaking on the issue said, “The decision to privatize the Visakhapatnam steel plant should be taken back by the central government immediately. The Visakhapatnam steel plant is a pride of Telugu people.”
He further asked the Centre to look for other alternatives for revenue sources. He also demanded to allocate own iron mine immediately to cover the losses of the steel plant.
Meanwhile, protests are raging in the Visakhapatnam against the decision to privatize the steel plant. A large number of labour and employment unions staged a protest across the state. As per them, the movement will be further exacerbated and will not rest until the government reverses its decision.
