Supreme Court’s notice to AP government on board exams

Most of the state governments in India, nearly 18 of them, decided to cancel their 10th and 12th class board exams. However, four states have decided to go ahead with conducting the exams at any cost, and are still standing by their decision, including the governments of Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Punjab.

The Supreme Court of India has now sent notices to these four governments, asking them why they haven’t cancelled their exams, and asked these four governments to submit their responses. The AP government was supposed to conduct a meeting where they were to discuss the dates of the board exams, but this meeting is now reportedly going to discuss the SC’s notice.

CM Jagan and the educational ministry of AP are said to be of the feeling that they can conduct the exams as the second wave of coronavirus is showing a downward trend right now. An incubation period of 20 days is expected to be given to the students for preparing for their exams. On the other hand, states like Kerala, Bihar and Chhattisgarh have already conducted their exams this year, and the results are expected to be announced any time soon.

Prior to the SC’s notice, the AP government was planning to conduct the intermediate board examinations from July 7 to July 25, while the 10th examinations were planned to be conducted from July 26 to August 2. As many as 4.5 Lakh 10th class students and 5 Lakh Intermediate students are expected to take the examinations as per the schedule.
